What is PROcessu Battle Ships
PROcessu
Battle Ships is a computer game based on the wellknown battleships game, which
almost all of us have played sometime. It consists of one space divided in 256
squares (16 rows x 16 columns), where you may place your fleet. This one
consists of:
1
ship occupying 5 squares;
2
ships occupying 4 squares;
3
ships occupying 3 squares;
4
ships occupying 2 squares and;
5
ships occupying 1 square each.
Interface:
On
the image above you can see some of the components of the interface:
On
the first line you can find the designation of the board you are seeing. In
this case it is your part of the game. The "ED" on the right
corner shows you that the program is in the editing mode;
Occupying
all the screen you see the space divided in 256 squares, where the ships
will be placed;
On
the right side, below "ED" there are 8 buttons: the one whith the
number 1 should be
taped once and it will place the five-square ship on the so called insertion
area (to
see further). The next buttons, with the numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5, correspond
to the other ships and should be taped as many times as the number they have
written on;
The
" \" button will switch the ship from the horizontal to the
vertical position and vice-versa;
The
"B" button starts the battle and;
The
"A" button places all the ships randomly. This
position can be changed by the user.
Once
you tap a button, one piece will be placed in the insertion area. This area
corresponds to the first 5 squares of the first line. It will be in this
area that all the ships will be placed so that subsequently they can be
positioned in the remaining space. Therefore, before you insert all the ships it
is not possible to use this area to place there one ship. Only after all the
ships have been placed will that be possible.
When
you are placing a ship all its squares are black. If the user presses the pen on
any part of the ship it will turn striped, black and white. That means this ship
can change the place. For that you only need to press and keep pressing your pen
on the ship and drag it to the place where you want to let it stay. While you
are placing another ship, the former one will be black again and the procedure
will be repeated. Only one ship will be striped.
When
placing the pieces it is not possible to place a ship adjacent to another and
this is the only restriction in the game. Apart from that, the ships can be
placed any way the user wants. As the ships are being placed the buttons will
disappear, that means there are no more ships of that size to be placed. The
" \" button can be used for the striped ship, but only if there is
enough space to turn it.
After you press the "B" button the game will start. The screen will look like this:
Now
the word "Enemy" on the top of the screen means the space you are
seeing is the one of your enemy and where you are going to play. The two
available buttons are intended to swap from your field ("M") to your
enemy's field ("E").
To
play you only have to tap on any square of your enemy's field. For every 3 shots
you
fire the computer will shot three others. A shot at the sea will be marked by a
dot on the center of the square. A hit will be marked by the square turning
black. When one of your ships sinks a sound will be heard as well as when you
will make sink one of your enemy's ships.
Since
it is not possible to have adjacent ships, every time a ship is sunk shots on
the sea surrounding it will be marked. The game you are playing probably will
look like this:
If
you check your field, by pressing the "M" button, you will be able to
see something like this:
The
striped pieces correspond to what your enemy has already hit, the dots
correspond to the shots at the sea and the dark squares to the not yet hit
spots.
The
winner will be the one, who guesses the position of all the enemy's ships before
he/she does it. The winner will get one point on the scoreboard.
Some explanations about the way the game is played are available in the help menu and in messages which will be shown while you are playing.
