Greetings! Here is some very basic help for using Learn?!. I think you will be able to figure out the rest by yourself :)

The principle of flashcard-learning

Learning can be a funny thing.
For some time I have used a flashcard box at home to help with the learning process that makes learning an easier task. The flashcard box is made of a simple card box containing cards with questions written on one side and answers on the other. For instance, to learn vocabulary, I might write the German word on one side and the foreign word on the other. It worked very well, but unfortunately, I usually do not carry it with me, when I have time to learn. For example while sitting in a train or waiting for somebody.

So I had the idea of transferring my flashcard box to my Palm Pilot by writing/using my own Application "Learn?!".

The Basic Principle Of Learn?! ...

The box consists of 5 "sub-boxes" and looks a bit like this:

Box 1
Box 2
Box 3
Box 4
Box 5

At the beginning, all cards are placed in Box 1. Assuming you have 23 flashcards it will look like this in the beginning:

23
0
0
0
0

If you use a real box, you have to choose one of the cards, try to answer the question on it and apply the following rules on putting the card back into the box:

  • If your answer is right, the card will be put in  the next higher folder
( or stays in Box 5)
  • If your answer is wrong it will be put back into Box 1.

In this way, flashcards you have already memorized will move to higher boxes until they finally reach Box 5.
The flashcards you do not know will stay in Box 1.

When you have answered the cards in Box 5 five times without error ... you know them perfectly.
Cards from Box 5 only need to be reviewed from time to time.

All these tasks are done by the software automatically.

Import function

You can import data from your desktop computer (i.e. MS-Excel-format) into Learn?!.

Therefore you need to have a so called metafile, that can be imported easy into a database of your choice.

How to construct a metafile?
