About

MegaCalc is a powerful calculator that includes practically all the basic calculation modules for every day use. The variety of functions enables you to perform nearly all calculations (mathematical, financial, conversion, credit, etc.), which you may need in your day-to-day activity. Guarantee of absolute mobility, user-friendly interface, easy to use make MegaCalc program your constant mobile assistant.
  • Supports handhelds running Palm OS 5.0 or later.
  • Supports Hi-Res (320x320) and Hi-Res Plus (320x480, 480x320) displays.
  • Supports 16-bit color displays only.
To install this application you should synchronize the "MegaCalc.prc" application to your device. Files can be installed by using the Desktop software or just any other application.

Note! If you have a previous version of MegaCalc installed on your device you should delete it before installation.

The MegaCalc application is a multifunctional calculator designed to implement the same operations as an ordinary calculator does. It fulfils basic arithmetic operations, such as addition and subtraction and also the functions of an engineering calculator, for example determination of logarithms and factorials. Now you don't have to carry some extra calculator with you.

Use the menu to switch the modes, to access program preferences, registration and about screens. Press the "Menu icon" button, to bring the menu up.

RPN entry logic can be enabled within MegaCalc preferences: Menu icon/Options/Preferences

This mode is a substitute for a standard (built-in) calculator
including TAX calculations. This calculator uses simple logic (optionally RPN), so it performs calculations without any priority.

Backspace key: Clears the last digit entered from the display

MegaCalc has a built-in list of constants. Those can be used for complicated calculations or some other purposes.

Each constant can be edited. To change the name and the value of the constant, select a constant and press the "Edit..." button.

RPN originates from Reverse Polish Notation. RPN entry logic can be enabled for Simple and Engineering modes via MegaCalc preferences.

Reverse Polish Notation - a method of mathematical expression recording without brackets - was founded by Jan Lukasiewicz in 1920. Using RPN you'll see that this method ranks over the algebraic format.

RPN use stack and mathematical operations are slowly performed on the lower stack level. Stack is used as memory where the results required for your next formula evaluations are stored. That is why there is no need for any brackets in RPN calculators. First you enter numbers into stack and then "order" what it should be done with them. For example, you wish to calculate: (( 3 + 1 )^2 + 1) * 4. To do this, you should enter the following:

    3 enter
    1 +(right away you'll see this operation result: 4)
x**2(right away you'll see this operation result: 16)
    1 +(right away you'll see this operation result: 17)
    4 *(end result: 68)

So, to calculate this expression you've pressed the keys 9 times and witnessed all intermediate results. Similarly you would calculate this without any calculator, just mentally. In other words this calculator works the same way as a human's brain.

If we compare this calculation process with that on an algebraic calculator, we'll see that in this case we'll have to press 12 keys and the intermediate results will be hidden. There are some other advantages:

    • RPN saves key pressing time. You don't have to use parentheses when calculating. This process is similar to that of calculating on a sheet of paper.
    • You see the intermediate results. This is an extremely useful side product.
    • An intermediate result makes it possible to check the calculations and easily correct the mistakes. It is less complicated to follow the calculation flow. A user defines operators' priority.
    • RPN is logical, as a user first enters a number and then orders what to do with it.
    • As subexpressions are calculated right after they are entered, input errors are more than demonstrable. In case of an algebraic calculator, an omitted initial bracket might cause a calculation error much later when the entire subexpression has been calculated.

Value entry into the stack register
Swap the values in X and Y registers
Rotation of stack registers (a value from T register transfers to Z register, from Z to Y register, from Y to X, from X to T)
      Lower stack register (X) clearing

This mode allows you to convert all possible values from some units to other without any difficulties.

    Sample operation:
    • Select the desired units group, for example "Angles"
    • Select the source units
    • Use the field "Value" to enter the value, which you want to convert
    • Select the destination units
    • The result of conversion will be shown on the display

This mode enables to perform the conversion of currency.

    Sample operation:
    • Select the currency the conversion will be done from
    • Select the currency the conversion will be done to
    • In order to perform the conversion correctly, enter the rate and commission parameters in corresponding fields
    • Enter the value you want to convert
    • The result of conversion will be shown on the display

This mode will be very helpful when you visit cafes, restaurants or travel by taxi, etc.

    • Select the value of all parameters ("People", "Tax", "Tip", "On tax")
    • Enter the "Total Check" value
    • As a result you'll get "To Pay", "Tip", "Share" values on LCD panel

To adjust the "Tip" mode parameters more precisely, press the "Options" in the lower part of the screen and from the list appeared select "Edit Lists".

Scientific notation, also known as standard form, is a notation for writing numbers that is often used by scientists and mathematicians to make it easier to write large and small numbers. A number that is written in scientific notation has several properties that make it very useful to scientists. The basic concept for the practical notations is this mathematical exponential expression using powers of ten: number = a * 10 b, wherein b is an integer, called exponent, and the coefficient a any real number, called the significand or mantissa.

Engineering notation is scientific notation in which the power of ten must be a multiple of three.

Mixed notation - notation for writing numbers, which allows a number to be written in a normal non-exponential form as long as it fits the screen size, otherwise the scientific notation is used.

Calc Mode - The program will always launch from the view, selected in this option
Notation - At program launch the notation selected will be used.

    Background - Screen color selection
Foreground - Screen indication elements color selection

This skin manager enables you to activate other skins, which you should download onto your device in advance, transfer skins from your device to SD/MMC card and vice versa, transfer skins to other devices with the help of the “Beam” command, and delete them. MegaCalc has a default built-in skin, which can’t be deleted. All supplementary skins are available from the distributive "MegaCalc.zip" archive or at the official MegaCalc page.
