Preferences settings must be correctly configured before using PaPi-Mail(R).
Palm OS 3.1 is used for screenshots in this part. It may look different from other versions of Palm OS.
For Palm OS 3.3 or later, refer to Appendix B: Settings for Palm OS handhelds [Palm OS 3.3 or later].
Open the Network Preferences screen of Palm OS handheld. You can open it from [Network Prefs] from the Options menu in PaPi-Mail.
Select [New] from the Service menu, then set up as follows:

Identify the created Network Preferences by entering a name in the Service field box.
Enter a dial-up account name in the User Name field.
Tap the Password and Phone field boxes to enter a dial-up password and dial-up phone number as shown below.

The Idle timeout setting defines how long your Palm OS handheld waits before dropping the connection with your ISP or dial-in server when you switch out of a TCP/IP application.
For details of each settings, refer to the Handbook of your Palm OS handheld.
Open the Modem Preferences screen of Palm OS handheld, and set up each setting to be applied to your mobile environment. You can open the Modem Preferences screen from the [Connection Prefs] from the Options menu in PaPi-Mail.
For the Palm OS 3.3 or later, skip the following settings.
You can exchange messages wirelessly by using IR(infrared) technology.
Install Enhanced Infrared Update (Palm, Inc.) into your Palm OS handheld. "Serial/IR" will be added to the Preferences list.
Select [Infrared] to communicate using IR technology, and select [Cradle] when you perform HotSync from a cradle.

Increase the TCP/IP Timeout setting in [General Setup] - [Receive] of PaPi-Mail. 60 Sec is recommended. It tends to drop network connection with short TCP/IP Timeout setting.
