Raceway '78 v3.6

by Gary Duke

You'll have lots of fun playing this nostalgic remake of Tomy's 1978 electro-mechanical game, "Digital Derby". If you enjoy playing Raceway '78, you must register it for just $5: Buy it at PalmGear or Buy it at Handango New Features in v3.5: * High score keeping * Gameplay now compatible with new OS5 devices! * Updated graphics for cars and title screen * Game over/Hi score messages * eliminated system click sound from up/down buttons New Features in v3.0: * A hi-speed, hi-scoring "Go Turbo!" mode takes the Digital Derby concept where it has never gone before! * Graphics auto-calibration code ensures gameplay runs at same speed on faster and slower Palm devices. Of course, the faster the device the smoother the gameplay. Installation: ------------- Install ALL three .prc files in the distribution: - Raceway78.prc - PToolboxLib753.prc - MathLib.prc NOTE: HiRes CLIE users must disable Hi-Res Assist in the "Prefs" application for proper operation. Description: ----------- Steer your car past your opponents, gaining the most points for staying in high gear, and avoiding crashes. A perfect race yields 150 "lap counts", but attaining over 120 "lap counts" means you are an awesome driver! Can you score over 120? Hint: Different gears make the opponents' cars travel at certain speeds. Eventually you will come to realize which of the gears to be in at the right times to ensure as much high-gear driving as possible! Usage: ------ 1. Push start (To Do) at the title screen to begin. 2. Use the Datebook and Address keys to steer your car, and the up and down buttons to switch gears as you drive. 3. Keep an eye on the timer at the top right. When the timer needle returns to the 12 o'clock position, the race is over. 4. When you have scored 50 lap counts, "Go Turbo!" mode is enabled. When and if you are ready, you may press the "To Do" button to engage "Turbo Play". You will score bonus (2x) lap counts and travel at Turbo Speed during "Turbo Play"! 5. "Turbo Play" will continue until you a) disable it by pressing the "To Do" button once again, or b) crash into an opponent car. 6. Press To Do to start another race, or Memo to abandon the current race and restart. Hint: To control the volume or mute the sound, go to the general tab in the Palm Prefs application, and adjust the Game Sound setting. Hint: To get the most out of "Turbo Play" mode, only engage when you are in a good position to do so. Staying between 1st and 2nd gear and switching to 3rd only when you have the room to do so will ensure a breezy "Turbo" experience. Hint: Don't be afraid to err on the side of caution and disengage "Turbo Mode" before you hit an opponent's car. Its better to "chicken out" and leave "Turbo Mode" than to lose valuable time by "wiping out" and crashing into an opponent!
