Introduction

WorldWyse is a reference guide to every country in the world. Covering topics such as history, politics, education, population, health, technology, and many more. Giving the user a clear and informative overview of any chosen country. It is the perfect traveling companion to people who want to know more about the places they visit, or simply an infomative read for those interested in country statistics. The content is licensed from and copyright © by Instituto del Tercer Mundo.

The program consists of two databases of countries and images, and one library needed to run the program. The information is updated yearly - please see our website for more information.

Installation

WorldWyse has been designed so that it is easy to install and update. There are no installation or setup programs required either to install or upgrade WorldWyse . The databases are installed together with the uncompress library required to run the program.

The file is normally transferred over the Internet as a compressed '.zip' file and should be decompressed automatically by most web browsers. The decompressed files required to either install or upgrade the program are called WorldWyse+.prc, WDataDB.pdb, WImageDB.pdb, WAnthemDB.pdb (Only works on the Treo 600 and 650), and SysZLib.prc.

- New Installation: The required files can be installed by choosing 'Install Handheld Files' from the Palm Desktop program or the HotSync Manager program. The files can also be dragged and dropped onto either of these programs. The files will be installed on the device during the next HotSync. You can install WorldWyse to your memory card. It will need to be stored in /WorldWyse or /Palm/Launcher in order to work. However, the SysZLib.prc will need to be installed on the device itself.

NOTE: if you are updating from a version prior to 2.0, please delete the older version before installing version 2.0

For Treo 600 and 650 users, the National Anthems Database is optionally, this database is not required for WorldWyse to function. It does give you the option to play the national anthems of almost every country.

- Existing Installation. The program is updated in the same way as it is originally installed. All versions of WorldWyse can be installed over the top of any existing version. All database and registration information will be automatically updated if required from previous versions. There is no need to delete any files before upgrading this product. If you are upgrading from a version prior to 2.0, the pnoJpegLib.prc library is no longer required. If you are sure that no other applications use this library, you can delete it of your device.

If you are having problems installing the program, please see the support section at our web site (www.codecity.net) for more detailed information, or write to us at the email addresses below.

Getting Started

The operation of WorldWyse should be fairly straightforward. Detailed help text is provided to explain every area of the program and can be accessed either by tapping on the (i) button in any dialog, or by choosing 'Help' from the menu on the main screen.

Useful Tips for Using the Program

- To make country selection faster when the list of countries is displayed, write the first letter of the country in the Graffiti area to show countries beginning with that letter. For example, to find Australia quickly, write an 'A' in the Graffiti area when the list of countries is displayed.

- Use the hardware up and down buttons to make navigating through the lists of countries easier. This is easier and much faster than tapping the on screen up and down arrows.

- Tapping anywhere on the map will show the name of the country.

- You can use the zoom buttons on the left hand side of the button bar to zoom the world map from 100% to 150% to 200% to 250% to 300%. This may make the selection of countries in areas such as Europe easier.

- Use the menu item maps to select the political map for ease of selecting countries or the Night lights map to see the world lit up at night.

- You can sort the statistics by country or rank by clicking the headings. Look up the country of choice by writing/typing the beginning letters of the country you wish to view.

– To add countries to your list of visited countries, select Countries Visited from the menu. To show these on the world map, make sure to tick Show on map tick box on the Countries Visited screen. To add a country to the list, simply click the Plus button and select the country you want to add. Deleting countries works the same way by using the minus button. You can add notes to these countries by clicking them in the list. These notes can be exported individually from the Notes screen by clicking the export button to the left of the done button, or all at once from the Countries Visited screen by selecting Export Notes from the menu.

- Throughout the program (where there is no help icon in the top right), additional help can be found by selecting the 'Help' menu option.
