MySettings

Version 1.0
For the Pocket PC devices

Introduction

MySettings is an application for the Pocket PC device which allows the user to adjust different system settings for specified times throughout the day. Currently, MySettings can adjust the light level, volume level, and IR Beam condition for the device. This is useful, for example, if you want the brightness setting for your device to be at the lowest setting during the day and at a higher setting during the evening. Along with specific times, you can also specify certain days (Mon, Tues, Weds, Mon-Fri, Sat-Sun, All, etc.).

Compatible Devices

Since all Pocket PC devices use different registry settings to control the backlighting, MySettings can only adjust the backlight levels for these devices:

  • HP iPAQ 1910
  • Compaq iPAQ 3600 series
  • Compaq iPAQ 3800 series
  • Compaq iPAQ 3900 series
  • Compaq iPAQ 5455
  • Toshiba e310
  • Toshiba e740

The volume levels and IR Beam status should work with ALL Pocket PC devices.

Usage

When you first start MySettings, you will see a screen similar to Figure 1, which is the Light/Volume Settings Screen. Here you can activate different timed settings and specify the time at which the specified volume and light levels are to be changed. You can also specify the day or days for the defined settings to be activated. Note, the actual selectable light levels will be based on your particular Pocket PC device. For example, the HP iPAQ 1910 only has 5 possible light settings, so you would see the numbers 0 through 4 in the dropdown list for the Light Settings, while you would see 10 selectable levels for the iPAQ 3970.

To illustrate how MySettings will work, let's look at the settings defined in Figure 1 below. For any time after 6:00 AM, the backlight setting on the Pocket PC device will be set to level 2 and the volume will be set to 70% max, for all days of the week. After 10:00 PM, the backlight setting will be set to level 1 and the the volume will at 0% (or off) for all days of the week.

In a similar fashion, you can control the IR Beam condition from the panel shown in Figure 2. This is useful if you want to save battery power and have the IR Beam activated only during certain times or days of the week.

Note: When defining the time for these settings, it is best to arrange them in descending order. MySettings will always start with the topmost defined entry on the screen and work downward. So, define the earliest time at the top of the list, working down to the latest time.

Once you've made your setting changes, you can tap the "Enable" button to enable MySettings. A background process will be running to check the time every 60 seconds when the Pocket PC device is on, to adjust the system settings accordingly. Also, whenever your device is powered on MySettings will check to see if it needs to make any system adjustments. If you want to deactivate MySettings, simply tap the "Disable" button on the screen. Note, tapping the buttons on either the "Light/Volume" screen or "IR Beam" screen will activate or deactivate both the Light/Volume and IR Beam timed events.

In some cases, you may want to manually changed the light or volume settings and not have MySettings adjust them based on your predefined settings. You can simply make the necessary manual changes and MySettings will notice those changes and will not revert the system settings until the next timed event.
