BIG RED PACK 2.2 (and BIG RED PACK AID 1.1)

Description:
Big Red Pack allows you to create and reuse packing lists for your various travels.  Much/most of what you pack for one trip you would pack for other future trips. Big Red Pack allows you to create packing lists once to be quickly reused for subsequent trips (of course, you can create one time lists that you will discard after a specific trip as well).  And Big Red Pack's usefulness isn't limited to when traveling; use it whenever reoccurring checklists would be helpful.

Clear Checkboxes Mode is a new feature introduced in version 2.2. For those already familiar with Big Red Pack, you can find details about this new feature below by looking for the blue text.

If you find this application useful, please show your support. The suggested amount is $4.00. (The application is fully functional and without nag screens, so I leave it to your conscience to be your guide when deciding whether to contribute :-).) You can pay at PayPal, Palmgear or Handango; visit my website for quick links to them and for the latest version of Big Red Pack:

How do you use it?:
Maybe the easiest thing to do is to install it, fiddle around for a few minutes to get a feel for its various features and (hopefully) you'll find it intuitive and can jump right into making your lists.

Long-winded explanation:
On the main screen (the screen that the application opens to) tap the "New" button. In the resulting details/edit screen (shown above), name your list (in the space to the right of "BR Pack:") and enter the items for packing that you want under this list (you can later edit the items listed if you wish). Return to the main screen by hitting the "All" button. Repeat for other lists you wish to create. Come trip time, review your lists by tapping on their names in the index of lists on the main screen and designate whether each should be packed for this specific trip by selecting "Yes" or "No" from the "Pack this list?" pulldown on the list's details/edit screen. When the time to actually start packing arrives, you can choose to view only the lists that you have set as "Yes" by choosing the "To Pack" tab. When viewing a list you are packing, you can use the checkboxes next to the specific items to keep track of your progress. Each item also has a quantity pulldown that you can use if you wish. When all items that you plan to pack on a given list are accounted for, you can check "Done". Return to the lists you designated "Yes" for packing by tapping the "Pack" button when on the details/edit screen to go to the "To Pack" tab on the main screen. When all "yes" lists are checked "Done", you are finished!

Also enclosed is Big Red Pack Aid. You do not need to install it in order to use Big Red Pack. Big Red Pack Aid adds functionality to Big Red Pack. You can use it to trigger a re-alphabetizing of your lists. (Big Red Pack alphabetizes a list relative to the others at the time you create it; if you later change the list's name, Big Red Pack will not change its position relative to the other lists, which may result in your lists no longer being in alphabetically order.)  Note that Big Red Pack and Big Red Pack Aid use case sensitive alphabetizing (e.g., "to..." will come before "Ta..."). Big Red Pack Aid also allows you to export your lists -with or without quantities- as a Palm memo arranged in CSV format (a common format used by various programs for importing data).

Tips/further explanations:
- On the list details/edit screen there are two columns of checkboxes (i.e., each item has two checkboxes) to give you more flexibility. Use these as you see fit: use one column for denoting that an item is packed and the other to denote that the item is to be ignored for this trip, or use one to denote that an item is ready to be packed and the other when it is actually placed in your suitcase, or use one as "hers" and one as "his", or one to pack when going and one to repack when returning... whatever you wish (or just ignore the second column entirely).

- Try to keep items in small groups by being somewhat specific in what a list is named. This gives you more flexibility when it's time to specify lists for a given trip as "Yes" and "No" for packing. (Each list can contain up to 12 items.)

- Note the difference between the "Clr" buttons and the "Del" button. The Clr buttons allow you to clear the checkboxes or quantities for a given list, but otherwise leave the list intact to be used again. Del erases the list entirely. The buttons on the confirmation screens for both clear functions are to the right and for the delete function to the left to help distinguish the confirmation screens.

- Clear Checkboxes Mode is new in version 2.2; it allows you to quickly clear list checkboxes. It can be enabled/disabled by tapping the push button located at the lower right corner of the main screen (the pushbutton will turn black to indicate that Clear Checkboxes Mode is enabled). While enabled, selecting a list does not jump to the list details/edit screen, but rather it causes all checkboxes for the list to be cleared. Be careful; there is no confirmation dialog screen and the action cannot be undone. To help you keep track of the lists that you have already cleared in this Clear Checkboxes Mode, the "Done" checkbox on the main screen will disappear (versus just being shown unchecked) for each cleared list. It will reappear the first time you visit the details/edit screen for the list in question. Note that the "All" and "To Pack" sorting tabs function in Clear Checkboxes Mode, but new lists cannot be created while in Clear Checkboxes Mode (the New List button disappears).
