Items with [required] must be set up before using PaPi-Mail.

- Changing a Name for Server Setup
- You can change Server Setup Name from the default name, "Server1".
Tap Server Setup Name field in the upper-right corner at Server Setup and enter a name.
- Switching Servers
- Up to eight servers can be configured. To switch to another and set up a different one, select a server from the Server drop-down list.
- POP3/IMAP4 Server [required]
- Select a protocol from a list for a mail incoming server, and enter a server name in the field.
- User Name [required]
- Enter User Name for a mail incoming server in the field.
- Password [required]
- Enter Password for a mail incoming server. Open a Password dialog box by tapping the box field with "-Unassigned-" displayed. After setting up a password, "-Assigned-" will be displayed in the box field.
- SMTP Server [required]
- Enter a server name for a mail outgoing server in the field.
- Mail Address [required]
- Enter your mail address. The address entered here appears in the From field of outgoing messages.
- Name
- Enter your name in the field. The name entered here appears in the From field of outgoing messages in Name <Mail Address> format.
- Signature
- Tap the box field with "-Unassigned-" displayed. Enter your signature in the appeared field and tap [OK]. After setting up a signature, "-Assigned-" will be displayed in the box field.
To add the signature to outgoing messages, Signature checkbox must be selected in the Message Details of New Message.
Tap [OK] to save settings. If you tap [Cancel], the settings will be discarded.
If further settings are required, tap the Details button.

Tap the Details button in the Server Setup screen to open the Details dialog box.

- POP3 server settings in details
- POP3 Port number
- Enter a port number for POP3 server. 110 is set by default.
- Auth (Authentication)
- When [Plain] is selected, a server authenticates with plain text. When [APOP] is selected, a server authenticates with encrypted password.
If a mail incoming server requires APOP authentication, select [APOP].
- Body size in Preview
- Select the body size to be displayed in the Preview from the drop-down list: None, 3 lines, 5 lines, or 10 lines.
- IMAP4 server settings in details
- IMAP4 Port number
- Enter a port number for IMAP4 server. 143 is set by default.
- over SSL
- When the "over SSL" checkbox is selected, communication will be secured with SSL. Choose between [Alternate Port] or [STARTTLS] as an accessing method. If [Alternate Port] is selected, IMAP4 port number will be set at 993.
- Rootbox
- Define a Rootbox for IMAP4 mailboxes. When Rootbox is defined, PaPi-Mail will access the mailboxes under the Rootbox only.
- Body size in Preview
- Select the body size to be displayed in the Preview from the drop-down list: None, 100 B (bytes), 200 B, or 400 B.
- SMTP server settings in details
- SMTP Port number
- Enter a port number for SMTP server. 25 is set by default.
- POP before SMTP
- When the "POP before SMTP" checkbox is selected, SMTP proceeds with POP server authentication before sending messages.
- SMTP Auth (Authenticaion)
- When the "SMTP Auth" checkbox is selected and set up, PaPi-Mail will be able to access SMTP server which requires authentication. Select an authentication method from drop-down list: Best Available, CRAM-MD5, PLAIN, or LOGIN.
- User Name
- Enter a User Name for SMTP server authentication.
- Password
- Enter a password for SMTP server authentication.
- over SSL
- When the "over SSL" checkbox is selected, communication will be secured with SSL. Choose between [Alternate Port] and [STARTTLS] as accessing method. If [Alternate Port] is selected, SMTP port number will be set at 465.
Tap [OK] to save settings. If you tap [Cancel], the settings will be discarded.
- General Setup
Select [General Setup...] from the Options menu to open General Setup screen.
The following settings will be applied to all of Server Setup.

- Local
The settings for messages in folders of Local screen.
- Confirm before deleting
- When the checkbox is selected, PaPi-Mail will confirm you deletion of a message before deleting. The checkbox is selected by default.
- Show Date
- When the checkbox is selected, date field will be displayed in mail list. The checkbox is selected by default.
- Receive
- TCP/IP Timeout
- Define how long it keeps waiting for a server's response. If time-out often occurs, increase the time setting. 30 Sec is set by default, and 180 Sec is maximum.
- Truncate Mail Size
- The Truncate Mail Size feature lets you set a point to truncate a long message when downloading onto your Palm OS handheld. By default, Truncate Mail Size is 4KB. You can set the Truncate size up to 60KB.
- GET All Messages
- When this checkbox is selected, all the listed messages will be downloaded including entire mail body when listed. If the checkbox is selected, the List button will change to the GET button. The checkbox is not selected by default.
- DELETE All Messages
- When this checkbox is selected, all the listed messages will be deleted from a server when listed. If the checkbox is selected, the List button will change to the DEL button. The checkbox is not selected by default.
When the "GET All Messages" and "DELETE All Messages" checkboxes are both selected, the List button will change to the G&D button.
- Confirm Setup before List
- When this checkbox is selected, Setting Confirmation dialog box will appear by tapping the List button. You can check and edit the current settings of Range, Search, and Network Preferences currently selected. The checkbox is not selected by default.

- Downloaded Msgs as Read/Listed Msgs as Read(IMAP4 Only)
- Choose either operation should change messages status in IMAP4 Server from "unread" to "read".
If [Downloaded Msgs as Read] is selected, status of messages on a server will be updated as read when downloaded. They will not be updated as read just by being listed.
If [Listed Msgs as Read] is selected, they will be updated as read when listed.
This setting is available only when the IMAP4 protocol is selected.
- Send
- Encapsulate BCC Msgs
- When the checkbox is selected, outgoing messages sent to BCC addresses will be capsulated. When it is not selected, messages will be sent in plain text. The checkbox is not selected by default.
- Add Date Header
- When the checkbox is selected, Date header based on the time setting of Palm OS handheld will be added to outgoing messages. Make sure the date in Palm OS handheld in "Date Header" dialog box is correct. Also, select an appropriate Time Zone from the drop-down list.
Tap [OK] to save settings. If you tap [Cancel], the settings will be discarded.
- Other Settings
The following settings can be configured in the PaPi-Mail Options menu.
- Network Preferences
The Network Preferences screen will be open by selecting [Network Prefs...] from the Options menu. For each settings, refer to the Handbook of Palm OS handhelds.
- Connection Preferences
The Connection Preferences screen will be open by selecting [Connection Prefs...] from the Options menu. For each settings, refer to the Handbook of Palm OS handhelds.
(The Modem Preferences will be open with Palm OS 3.1.)
- Security Info
The "Security Info" dialog box will be open by selecting [Security Info...] from the Options menu.
- Don't show Alerts if SSL enabled.
- The checkbox next to the above is selected by default so that errors/alerts will not be displayed.
PaPi-Mail uses the server certificate of Certicom and other server
certificates may cause Server Certificate Error (error corde: 5101-####). Even so, most of SSL communication can be safely continued.
If the check of the box is cleared, SSL error messages including the above "safe" error will be displayed every time SSL communication occurs. It would help you check all the errors detected in SSL certification. The errors/alerts can be still turned off from next time by clicking the box again, or by clicking the box next to "Don't show this alert next time." in the dialog box.

In case of troubles with SSL communication, the latest 10 error logs are kept in Communication Error Log. Please report the trouble to us along with the logs.
